Over the last year, we have been working in partnership with the UAE’s Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) to conduct a global review of ways governments are transforming their operations and improving the lives of their people though innovation. We have conducted extensive research into innovation trends and examples in OECD member countries and non-members alike, as well as a two-month open “Call for Innovations” to identify examples of innovative practices in governments worldwide. It began with an announcement, when His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed AlNahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, declared 2015 as the “Year of Innovation” in the country. HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai then dedicated November 22-28, 2015 as UAE Innovation Week, where institutions throughout the nation would showcase their innovations.
